The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks has released a formal public notice with the objective of soliciting suggestions and comments for the revision of current manuals and guidelines. This also includes the issuance of new guidelines for Patents, Designs, Trade Marks, Geographical Indications, and Copyrights.
Who May Participate
The invitation for input extends to all interested parties, including patent and trademark holders, designers, legal experts, academics, and professionals in industries governed by intellectual property laws.
Need for Revision
The primary focus is to align these documents with contemporary practices, international norms, recent legislative developments, and evolving technology.
Submission Process and Timelines
Stakeholders are encouraged to provide well-articulated, evidence-supported suggestions and comments. These could include:
- Identifying limitations or gaps in current guidelines;
- Proposing new topics or issues that should be covered in the guidelines;
- Making recommendations for updating existing sections to reflect current legal or technological considerations.
Stakeholders have until October 15, 2023, to submit their detailed feedback. All such contributions should be directed to the official email address: [email protected]. Upon receipt, these submissions will be forwarded to expert committees for comprehensive review and further action.
Process Following the Submission Deadline
After the final date for submissions has passed, all comments and suggestions will be collated and presented to specialized expert committees for review. These committees, each focusing on a specific area of intellectual property, will then undertake the process of considering the public input for the future revision or issuance of new manuals and guidelines.
