In the latest data from the Official Journal of Patents and Designs, key insights on patent applications, publications, and grants from 18th to 25th August 2023 were unveiled by BananaIP Counsels, a leading Intellectual Property firm in India.

Patent Statistics Overview:

  • Total patent applications this week: 724 (Early publications: 239, Ordinary publications: 485)
  • Patent examination decreased by 30.42%, standing at 263.
  • Patent grants increased by 35.33% to 1,643 applications.

Breakdown by City – Early Publications:

  • Delhi: Increased from 0 to 124.
  • Mumbai: Surge of 162.96% (27 to 71)
  • Chennai: Drop of 86.68% (293 to 39)
  • Kolkata: decreased by 61.53% (13 to 5).

Ordinary Publications by City:

  • Delhi: 6.93% rise (303 to 324)
  • Mumbai: 51.21% hike (41 to 62)
  • Chennai: 22.07% rise (77 to 94)
  • Kolkata: increased by 400% (1 to 5).

First Examination Report (FER) Distribution:

  • Delhi: 104
  • Mumbai: 65
  • Chennai: 77
  • Kolkata: 17.

Publications Under Grant by City:

  • Delhi witnessed a 24.22% rise (545 to 677)
  • Mumbai saw an increase of 62.03% (187 to 303)
  • Chennai observed a hike of 31.40% (363 to 477)
  • Kolkata reported a rise of 56.30% (119 to 186).

  • Early publications: 15,010
  • Ordinary publications: 19,337
  • Total applications published: 34,349
  • Total grants: 31,626 (Delhi: 12,796, Mumbai: 5,113, Chennai: 10,227, Kolkata: 3,490)
  • Applications examined: 17,535.

Industrial Design Statistics:

  • 319 designs registered this week, increased from 308 the previous week.
  • Total designs registered in 2023: 19,694.
