In the latest data from the Official Journal of Patents and Designs, key insights on patent applications, publications, and grants from 28th July to 4th August 2023 were unveiled by BananaIP Counsels, a leading Intellectual Property firm in India.

Patent Statistics Overview:
  • Total patent applications this week: 666 (Early publications: 295, Ordinary publications: 371)
  • Patent examination decreased by 1.81%, standing at 378.
  • Patent grants increased significantly by 33.49% to 1,638 applications.
Breakdown by City – Early Publications:
  • Delhi: Increase of 68.22% (107 to 180)
  • Mumbai: Surge of 183.78% (37 to 105)
  • Kolkata: Rise from 0 to 3 applications.
  • Chennai: Drop of 79.41% (34 to 7)
Ordinary Publications by City:
  • Delhi: 24.87% increase (205 to 256)
  • Mumbai: 6.81% hike (44 to 47)
  • Kolkata: Increase from 0 to 3 applications.
  • Chennai: Decline of 30.10% (93 to 65)
First Examination Report (FER) Distribution:
  • Delhi: 136
  • Mumbai: 91
  • Chennai: 123
  • Kolkata: 28
Publications Under Grant by City:
  • Delhi witnessed a 74.08% surge (409 to 712)
  • Mumbai and Chennai observed increases of 36.41% (195 to 266) and 8.22% (462 to 500) respectively.
  • Kolkata reported a slight decrease of 0.62% (161 to 160).

Industrial Design Statistics:
  • 314 designs registered this week, down from 331 the previous week.
  • Total designs registered in 2023: 18,743.
