Indian Patent and Design Statistics 2023: Insights for November 17 – 24

In the latest data from the Official Journal of Patents and Designs, key insights on patent applications, publications, and grants from 17th to 24th of November 2023 were unveiled by BananaIP Counsels, a leading Intellectual Property firm in India.

Patent Statistics Overview:
  • Total patent applications this week: 5,013 (Early publications: 1,402, Ordinary publications: 3,611)
  • Patent examination decreased by 11.3%, standing at 327.
  • Patent grants saw an increase of 25.9% with 2,497 applications.
Breakdown by City – Early Publications:
  • Delhi: Increased by 5172% (11 to 580)
  • Mumbai: rose by 2580% (15 to 402)
  • Chennai: increased by 517% (63 to 389)
  • Kolkata: surged by 181% (11 to 31).
Ordinary Publications by City:
  • Delhi: 68700% increase (4 to 2752)
  • Mumbai: 1554% increase (33 to 546)
  • Chennai: 50.6% increase (144 to 217)
  • Kolkata: rose by 242% (28 to 96)
First Examination Report (FER) Distribution:
  • Delhi: 113
  • Mumbai: 58
  • Chennai: 140
  • Kolkata: 16
Publications Under Grant by City:
  • Delhi witnessed a 20.9% rise (901 to 1,090)
  • Mumbai saw an increase of 8.49% (365 to 396)
  • Chennai observed an increase of 45.40% (522 to 759)
  • Kolkata reported an increase of 29.8% (194 to 252)

  • 443 designs registered this week, decreased from 554 the previous week.
