Indian Patent and Design Statistics 2023: Insights for November 10 – 17

In the latest data from the Official Journal of Patents and Designs, key insights on patent applications, publications, and grants from 10th to 17th of November 2023 were unveiled by BananaIP Counsels, a leading Intellectual Property firm in India.

Patent Statistics Overview:

  • Total patent applications this week: 309 (Early publications: 100, Ordinary publications: 209)
  • Patent examination decreased by 26%, standing at 369.
  • Patent grants saw a decrease of 31.2% with 1,982 applications.
Breakdown by City – Early Publications:
  • Delhi: Increased by 1000% (1 to 11)
  • Mumbai: rose by 36.3% (11 to 15)
  • Chennai: increased by 125% (28 to 63)
  • Kolkata: decreased by 70.2% (37 to 11).
Ordinary Publications by City:
  • Delhi: 50% decrease (8 to 4)
  • Mumbai: 22.2% hike (27 to 33)
  • Chennai: 33.3% hike (108 to 144)
  • Kolkata: drop by 24.3% (37 to 28)
First Examination Report (FER) Distribution:
  • Delhi: 137
  • Mumbai: 90
  • Chennai: 115
  • Kolkata: 27
Publications Under Grant by City:
  • Delhi witnessed a 31.0% drop (1306 to 901)
  • Mumbai saw a decrease of 19.24% (452 to 365)
  • Chennai observed a decline of 35.9% (815 to 522)
  • Kolkata reported a decrease of 37.6% (311 to 194)

Industrial Design Statistics:

  • 554 designs registered this week, increased from 552 the previous week.
  • Total designs registered in 2023: 25,725.
