Speedy Trade Mark Registration: Controller’s Public Notice to file Examination Reports

On 14th August, 2017, in an attempt to speeden the trade mark registration process and clear the back log, the Controller of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks issued a public notice asking applicants to respond to examinations that were sent by the Trade Mark Registry before 15th September, 2017. As per the notice, not filing a response before the said date will result in abandonment of the trade mark application. CHANEL’S WIN AGAINST COUNTERFEITERS

Chanel, the luxury fashion house succeeded in protecting its Intellectual Property against online counterfeiters this June. The sellers were engaged in selling counterfeit products using the Chanel Logo through Amazon.com. In the trademark infringement suit, the California Federal judge sided with the fashion house entering into a default judgment against over two dozen sellers making Chanel $3 million richer. Chanel has added itself to the list of luxury brands like Gucci and Dior who have ferociously protected their Intellectual Property against online sale of their counterfeit goods in the past.
