20000 patents granted till date. Will the Indian patent office issue enough patents this year?

This week’s Patent & Design data has been compiled from the Official Journal of the Patents and Designs Office published by the patent office on the 15th of November 2019. These statistics are presented to you by the Patent attorneys and experts of BananaIP Counsels, India’s leading Intellectual Property Firm.

INDIAN PATENT STATISTICS

A total of 714 patent applications have been published in the 46th issue of the Patent Journal, 2019. Out of the 714 applications published in the journal, 108 applications account for early publications while 606 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 – month period. A total of 378 applications have been granted last week as compared to 557 grants in the week preceding the last thereby marking a decrease of about 32.13%.

Of the total 714 patent applications published in the journal last week, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata have contributed a total of 86 applications. The total applications from each of the previously mentioned cities are as follows – 29 applications from Delhi, 17 applications from Mumbai, 11 applications from Bangalore, 14 applications from Chennai, 11 applications from Hyderabad and 4 applications from Kolkata.
