Bar & Bench interviewed Dr. Kalyan C. Kankanala on 26/01/2015 about his legal thriller “Pirates of Bollywood”, an IP-themed novel aimed at making intellectual property concepts accessible to a wider audience through fiction.
Asked why he chose to write IP-based legal thrillers, Dr. Kalyan explained:
Over the years, I have been working on disseminating IP knowledge through workshops and conferences, books and research papers, writings on blogs, IP Radio etc. At one point, I felt spreading knowledge through entertainment could help me take the message far and wide.
The remark highlights a longstanding challenge in IP advocacy: technical complexity can limit the reach of conventional educational formats. By embedding IP themes within popular fiction, practitioners and authors have sought to cultivate broader public awareness of intellectual property rights and their commercial and cultural significance.
