Patent activity at the Indian Patent Office escalates this week, over 2000 FER’s issued

The Patent and Design Statistics illustrated below have been compiled from the Official Journal of the Patents and Designs Office published by the patent office on Fridays, every week. These statistics are presented to you by the Patent attorneys and experts of BananaIP Counsels, India’s leading Intellectual Property Firm.


A total of 842 patent applications have been published in the 44th issue of the Patent Journal, 2019. Out of the 842 applications published in the journal, 112 applications account for early publications while 730 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 – month period. A total of 359 applications have been granted last week as compared to 562 grants in the week preceding the last thereby marking a decrease of about 36.12%.

Of the total 842 patent applications published in the journal last week, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata have contributed a total of 113 applications. The total applications from each of the previously mentioned cities are as follows – 4 applications from Delhi, 61 applications from Mumbai, 11 applications from Bangalore, 13 applications from Chennai, 19 applications from Hyderabad and 5 applications from Kolkata.
