While the terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, this deal surely comes in as a relief to Samsung which has been battling several lawsuits for some time now. Ericson for instance has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in the United States relating to a dispute over royalty payments and patent licenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Intel asked to pay $2.18 billion in patent infringement case<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">A federal jury in Texas has ordered chip making giant, Intel corp. to pay $2.18 billion-dollar in damages to VLSI Technology LLC for allegedly infringing two patents held by VLSI. The patents in question relate to inventions that help increase the power and speed of computer processors. The jury held that there was no \u201cwillful infringement\u201d of the patents by Intel but there was certainly \u201cwillful blindness\u201d as the company failed to check if it was using someone else\u2019s innovations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #ff6600;\"><strong>International Patent News<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>China remains top patent filer in 2020, filings grow despite pandemic<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">China has emerged has the top patent filer in 2020 by filing 68,720 PCT applications which translates to an increase of about 16.1% from 2019. United States ranked second with a total of 59,230 applications which is about 3% more than the total applications filed in 2019. The top 10 patent filers in 2020 are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">China<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">USA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Japan<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">South Korea<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Germany<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">France<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">United Kingdom<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Switzerland<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Sweden; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Netherlands<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">India ranked 14<sup>th<\/sup> on the list and filed 1,914 applications as opposed to 2,047 applications filed in 2019. Italy, Canada and Israel occupied the 11<sup>th<\/sup>, 12<sup>th<\/sup> and 13<sup>th<\/sup> positions respectively, while Australia followed India at the 15<sup>th<\/sup> Spot.
