The Court stated in the order that the Government must grant licenses to make and sell only green crackers, and that sale of non-green crackers or those that are not environment friendly are not permitted during Diwali celebrations. Crackers with at least thirty to thirty five percent less air and noise pollution were said to be green or environment friendly. NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NERI), a CONSTITUENT LABORATORY OF CSIR, has been working on developing green crackers since January, 2018, and claims to have developed cracker formulations that produce thirty percent less particulate matter. Though efforts have been made by the Government to encourage cracker manufacturers and sellers to use the said formulations, those efforts seem to have been only partially successful. Several news reports during the last three days indicate that there is a shortage in availability of green crackers despite the intent to make them widely available for this year&#8217;s Diwali celebrations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Green Cracker Patents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We went through patent applications published during the last three years using keyword searches with the objective of finding environment friendly cracker inventions for which patent applications have been filed in India. To our surprise, we did not find many patent applications, and could not identify any applications filed by NERI or CSIR. The inventions we found relate to green crackers, eco friendly diyas, and protection devices. Some interesting applications are listed hereunder. They give some ideas about what can be done to make Deepavali green and environment friendly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. Invention Title <strong>A METHOD FOR PREPARING CRACKER SHAPED CHOCOLATE AND A PRODUCT THEREOF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Application Number: 201821031994<br \/>\nApplication Filing Date: 27\/08\/2018<br \/>\nApplicants and Inventors: Dinesh Bhangdiya and Ruchika Bhangdiya<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>A method for preparing a chocolate in form of a cracker, said method comprising the steps of: heating chocolate compound; adding ingredients to said compound; putting a mixture of chocolate compound and the ingredients in a chocolate die; cooling and solidifying said mixture in a chocolate mould; and demoulding the mixture or chocolate.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Status: Published.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Note: The abstract has been published AS IS and has not been corrected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Invention Title: <strong>MOLECULAR DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED, HIGH PERFORMANCE AND RELIABLE GREEN EXPLOSIVES.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Application Number: 201611002646<br \/>\nApplication Filing Date:\u00a0 25\/01\/2016<br \/>\nInventors: DR.SUBRATA GHOSH, Pankaj Gaur, SUNIL KUMAR, DR.PREM FELIX, SAGARIKA DEV, and DR. PRAMOD SONI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The invention related to the design and development of polytriazole based dendriticnitrate esters. The molecular framework of the motifs was engineered to ensure their promising energetic performance. The presence of triazole as a core of this framework not only provided the thermal stability and low impact sensitivity but also responsible for their nitrogen richness. Simultaneously, decoration of triazole with polynitrate esters played an appreciable role in enhancement of their oxygen balance, density and detonation performances. EVANJELENE<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The invention unveils formulations for toxic free crackers that are developed by addition of natural sources. Fireworks are the combination of chemicals, during combustion reaction it produces different gas. These gases affect the environment by creating pollution. This has paved the way for Eco-friendly Bio treated crackers for minimizing the pollutants. These newly developed ones are made by stuffing the natural sources that reduces the pollution, and minimizes the health problems and other environmental issues. &#8220;Eco-friendly Bio treated crackers will check.pollution and thereby sparkling festival of lights will continue. It has majorly chemicals as Camphor, Alum, Chlorine, Disinfectants and others which are brought together to make a new product. The chemicals are heated together and put in moulds of the required shapes and then allowed to settle. In a semi solid state the Camphor is added in the middle which acts as wick having the shape of flame. The Diya is then coated from all sides with geru to give it a natural look of earthen Diyas. The present invention thus gives eco friendly product. Camphor is used while worshipping since ages.
