\nAccording to the data generated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), earlier known as Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), 120 startups have received patents for their inventions in 101 days. Representatives of the Department indicated that the breakthrough is likely the result of Startup India action plan, launched in the year 2016. The data from DPIIT shows that about 450 applications have been filed since 2016 under the expedited examination facility until the 31st<\/sup> of March 2019.<\/p>\nPatent \/ Design Infringement, Dispute, Licensing and Settlement<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nUSITC to begin investigation into alleged patent infringement by famed solar giants<\/strong>
\nThe United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has announced that it will begin investigation into a complaint filed with it by South Korea based Hanwha Business Group accusing three Chinese companies of unlawful import and sale of the company\u2019s patented PV cells and modules. The infringing companies namely, JinkoSolar, Longi Solar and REC Group have suits instituted against them in other countries including Germany and Australia. The Chief Administrative Law Judge of USITC is expected to assign the case to an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) who will in turn hold an evidentiary hearing. The investigation is expected to be completed within 45 days from the date of first instituting the investigation. USITC has recognized certain specific units of the infringing companies in order to initiate investigation. Currently, three units of REC, six units of Jinko and eight units of Longi have been identified as respondents for the investigation.<\/p>\nInternational Patent News<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\u00a0<\/strong>EPO and Jordon begin negotiations on possible validation agreement<\/strong>
\nThe European Patent Office (EPO) and the Jordanian Industrial Property Protection (IPPD) Directorate have begun negotiations to institute a validation agreement. The negotiations conducted in Munich were held in order to provide applicants with a simple, timely and fair system of obtaining patents in Jordan based on a patent application filed with the EPO. The EPO currently has an active validation agreement with Morocco, Republic of Moldova, Tunisia and Cambodia. When an Applicant from any of the contracting countries submits a request for validation and pays the requisite fee, the European patent application may be extended in these countries. The applications will primarily have the same effect as that of a national application and will continue to receive patent protection that the EPO grants for EPC contracting states.
