On March 3, 1856, a civil engineer, George Alfred DePenning from Kolkata petitioned the Government of India for grant of exclusive privileges for his invention \u2014 “An Efficient Punkah Pulling Machine”. He was later granted a patent for the same in September that year.<\/p>\n

Indian Patent Statistics<\/span><\/h2>\n

A total of 711 patent applications have been published in the 38th<\/sup>\u00a0issue of the patent journal. Out of the 711 applications, 19 applications account for early publications while 692 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 month period. A total of 166 applications have been granted this week thereby marking a decrease of about 32.52% in total grants as compared to the preceding week.<\/p>\n
