A total of 663 patent applications have been published this week as opposed to 710 applications last week. Of the 663 applications, 36 applications account for early publications while 627 applications are ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 month period. The DIPP Ministry which is now handled by Mr. Prabhu in its official statement further added that \u201cThe examination of patent applications has increased over three times in the last six months compared to the same period last year.\u201d and \u00a0&#8220;To reduce the pendency, 458 patent and 59 trademark examiners have been appointed in addition to the existing manpower. Pendency in Patent examination is targeted to be brought down from the present 7 years to 18 months by 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Patent disputes, infringement and settlements<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Teva sues Eli Lilly for patent infringement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pharma giants Teva and Eli Lilly have locked horns over the marketing of a migraine medication being manufactured and sold by Eli Lilly. Teva has alleged that Eli Lilly\u2019s drug for migraine treatment, galcanezumab infringes on five of Teva\u2019s patents and that it hopes to win damages and an injunction that will stop Lilly from manufacturing or selling galcanezumab in the US.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nuance files patent infringement suit against M-Modal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nuance Communications, the famous Medical Transcription services based company has announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. Federal District Court of Delaware against its arch rival \u2013 M-Modal (another famous Medical Transcription services based company). \u00a0The lawsuit alleges that M-Modal products violate six Nuance patents related to speech recognition, computer-assisted physician documentation and transcription technology applied in the healthcare IT market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Apple asks appeals court to reverse judgment \u2013 says decision \u2018fraught with error\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apple has requested that an appeals court reverse or reduce a\u00a0judgment ordering the company to pay $506 million\u00a0for infringing on a patent held by the University of Wisconsin-Madison\u2019s technology transfer office.
