For centuries, people have tried searching for ways to stay \u2018forever young\u2019. In keeping with this tradition, a team of chemical engineers and medical researchers at Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered a product that removes all the skin defects and makes you look younger. This is nothing but an invisible silicone- based film that can serve as a waterproof, sweat-proof and wear-proof sunscreen by creating a protective barrier from the sun. This product is described as a \u201csecond skin\u201d that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars and under-eye bags. Further, it can even be used to treat eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product is being developed by a small, privately owned Cambridge Company, Olivo Laboratories, which owns the patent. This invention is being disclosed in US9308221B2 titled \u201cSkin compositions and methods of use thereof\u201d. The abstract of the invention reads as: \u201cThe present invention provides durable, natural looking, non-invasive compositions that exhibit desired aesthetic qualities. Specifically, the compositions can be used for therapeutic treatments, including treatments of wounds and headaches. The invention pertains, at least in part, to therapeutic formulations for application to the skin that comprise a) a reactive reinforcing component; and b) a cross-linking component; in which the cross-linking component facilitates in situ formation of a film over the skin\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Claim 1 of the invention reads as:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. . A therapeutic formulation for the formation of a film over the skin of a subject, comprising:<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. a) a reactive reinforcing component comprising<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    (i) a reactive constituent comprising as ingredients at least one vinyl functionalized organopolysiloxane and at least one\u00a0 hydride functionalized polysiloxane, wherein said reactive\u00a0 reinforcing component has a molar ratio of vinyl to hydride\u00a0 functional groups of about 1:10 to about 1:100, and<\/span><\/p>\n

    (ii) a reinforcing constituent; and<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. b) a cross-linking component wherein, after said cross-linking component is contacted with the reactive reinforcing component, a filmed is formed in situ on said skin.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Let us hope that this product will be available to the market sooner so that it can benefit people suffering from various skin diseases and can also be used by people who want to look younger. The demand for this product will also accelerate more innovation and improvements that can help more people.<\/span><\/p>\n
