The post below gives \u00a0details about the statistics of patents filed by Indian states \u00a0in the past decade<\/p>\n

The patent system plays a major role in preventing stagnation of\u00a0industrial growth by stimulating creation of intellectual property. It propels competitive spirit amongst the inventors and industrialists to forge ahead and make improvements to their products, machines and processes. This results in the advancement of technology and further enhancement in the sphere of knowledge. Indian Patent Office is geographically divided and located at Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai & Delhi. Patent Office, Kolkata is the Head office.<\/p>\n

The number of applications for patents filed in 2013-14 was 42,951 while in 2012-13 the\u00a0 figure was 43,674, which shows a marginal decrease of 1.65%. Out of the total number of 42,951 applications, the number of applications filed by Indian applicants was 10,941, which is about 10.4% more than the previous year, wherein the corresponding number was 9911. Out of the total number of applications filed by Indian applicants, Maharashtra continued to occupy the first position in respect of filing in this year, as\u00a0in the\u00a0previous 11 years, followed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh.<\/p>\n
